Did You Know Where Black Began?

On formal occasions, it had been a habit or rather as culture; to wear tuxedos particularly for men as their formal attire. Tuxedos had been a trademark of elegance, class and style for the male category. But have you ever wondered who invented those handsome tuxedos men wear on formal occasions? Probably not, because almost everyone didn’t know that tuxedos have two version of how it came to be. First was about Mr. Pierre Lorillard from New York City, he’s from a wealthy family who has properties from Tuxedo Park, a few miles from New York. It was in 1886 that their family held a ball and he wore his own design of formal wear for men which was a tailless black jacket which he named “tuxedo” from Tuxedo Park itself. Since then, tuxedos became a fashionable choice for formal wear in America until now.

Second was during the nineteenth century when a resident of Tuxedo Park named James Brown Potter went to England for vacation during the year 1886. James and his wife Cora was introduced to the famous Prince of Wales, who became King Edward VII further on, at a certain ball. James Potter politely asked the prince for some advice on evening wear and sent him to the prince’s own tailor. Potter was fitted with a short, black and tailless jacket which was different from the usual tailed jackets back in America which was worn during formal occasions.

And it happens that Potter brought the design back to Tuxedo Park and gave Pierre Lorillard the idea, Lorillard modified it and named it after their place. The tuxedos became more popular as it was worn during the Autumn Balls; it was a great trend in fashion that’s still alive until now.

There had been many modifications on the tuxedos to make it evolve with the fast-pacing world of fashion, but it didn’t lose its elegant look and classy style from its original form. Tuxedos had been the most in-demand attire on formal parties, especially for “black-tie” occasion. Though not everyone can afford the best-quality ones, the appeal of a tuxedo still reflects from the person who wears it. Men must be confidence on what they put on, whether it was way back in 1886 or at the present date. Whoever really invented the tuxedos for formal wear, the most important thing is that it has created a whole new era in the world of fashion that made its name and survived up until now.
